In May 2025, The Blue Feather Initiative hosted a public meeting in Pineville, Wyoming County, to address the growing water crisis. Over 100 residents showed up to share concerns about discolored, oily, and foul-smelling tap water.
With help from the West Virginia Rivers Coalition, attendees learned how to test their water using conductivity meters and began building a community-led record of contamination. Speakers described years of neglect and environmental damage, calling the crisis a “crime against humanity.” Residents voiced frustration with officials and committed to organizing, collecting data, and demanding clean water for their communities. People traveled from across the county to be heard—many for the first time. Some brought jars of water as evidence, while others spoke with grief, anger, and exhaustion. The room was full of resolve: this community isn’t giving up.
